My name is Jillian Tackaberry, and I’m an abstract artist and designer living in Chicago, IL.
I am available for 2026 commissions.
As a self-taught artist, I created my first piece in my parents’ garage, using an old bed sheet that I dyed and painted with ink. This canvas — which I made to fill a blank wall in my dorm room — was the first time I created an art piece with its own identity. It featured the spirit of my notebook doodles on a new scale. This piece was the spark that became Eomykota. While studying design at UIC, I evolved my artistic style in my free time, creating tapestries that still hang in my home today.
A few years after graduating, I found renewed inspiration to create art with upcycled fabric, but this time with influence from my design background. Today, my artwork focuses on layering geometric compositions, creating dynamic color palettes, and exploring the unique properties of the fabric I use.
My art practice explores geometry, color, and form through wall-based sculptural works. Moving beyond the rectangular canvas, I build shaped objects that engage the wall as an active space. Guided by both self-directed experimentation and a background in design, I work with textiles by pleating, dyeing, sewing, and painting them to create shifts in texture and rhythm. Subtle irregularities soften precise structures, creating a quiet tension between precision and imperfection and inviting a more intuitive engagement with form, color, and spatial balance.
